Well, admittedly, I don't know what makes someone a god to begin with. We don't have enough regular, verifiable contact with spirits where I come from to have much of a taxonomy.
I mean, belief is a big part of it. I've definitely communed with spirits who've claimed to be various deities from my world's history, and there's really no way for me to be sure apart from just believing them.
